Young Tenants Tour Services and Learn about Apprenticeships

In January six young people (four of whom were tenants) went on a pilot tour of Plymouth Community Homes’ Manufacturing Services.  The tour included seeing the PVCu windows factory, the joinery section, the metal workshop and the sign makers. There was also a talk about Apprenticeships within PCH where those who attended had an opportunity to ask questions.

Five of the young people said that they would like to pursue an apprenticeship in Manufacturing Services and four of them would like to be involved in giving their thoughts and ideas on how Apprenticeships within Plymouth Community Homes develops in the future. Neil, one of the young tenants who came on the tour, said that he ‘was surprised how much goes on here.’  The tour was supported by Plymouth Community Homes’ staff and Support Workers from Life Housing Support.

Following the success of the pilot tour PCH will be offering an opportunity to all tenants under the age of 25 (1200 of them) to tour the manufacturing services and this will be promoted through the residents’ newsletter.  It is anticipated that this will generate much interest in the Apprenticeships scheme and will provide a great way for PCH to partner with its younger tenants by offering them much-needed opportunities to achieve skills, training and employment.
